My mission in art is to create beautiful bronze sculptures that inspire the spirit within.
I sculpt in wax, having a rubber mold made at the foundry. I receive back from them a hollow wax of my sculpture, in which I rework the entire surface. The hollow wax is then cast into bronze at the foundry and returned to me unfinished. I then rework the entire surface to my satisfaction using grinders, chasing tools, files and, on highly polished surfaces, sandpaper.
I love working with the bronze as much as the wax. Wax is so malleable, whereas bronze moves under the chasing tools with the assistance of sheer will as the surface is so hard. I have done some patinas, but the foundry is better equipped so I usually stand close by and direct them through the patina process.
